Causes

The Battle of the Atlantic lasted from September 3rd 1939 until May 7th 1945. It was the longest continuous battle of World War lasting almost the entire World War II.

Because of Britain’s location, Britain has always been dependent on the seas for its economy, importing of food, and other supplies from other nations to thrive. The German’s knew of this weakness so they strategized that to kill off Britain and take control of the Atlantic ocean, they should cut off Britain’s access to commerce shipping from allies by using U-boats, submarines, and surface ships all across the Atlantic ocean. Eventually gaining the entire coast of Europe.
